The GVN Foundation
GVN Foundation was founded in 2005 to provide financial assistance to local community organisations in countries around the world. GVN Foundation is modelled after the Global Volunteer Network (GVN). GVN Foundation allows donors the opportunity to effect change in countries around the world. Our Foundation works with local community organisations to implement sustainable development projects. Whether that be building a school for orphans of HIV/AIDS or providing emergency food supplies to victims of natural disasters, we work to provide communities with the resources they need. VisionThe vision of GVN Foundation is to support the charitable and educational work of local community organisations in various countries through the distribution of financial, in-kind and material donations. BeginningsIn 2004 Colin Salisbury, GVN's founder and director, extended the services GVN provides by creating the GVN Community Fund. Colin hired Courtney Montague to oversee this fund. Having lived in a number of countries, and earning a degree from the American University of Paris, Courtney has an awareness and understanding of international development issues. After just a year Colin and Courtney noticed the tremendous difference resources, combined with volunteers, made in local communities. They decided it was time to extend the fundraising aspect of GVN and therefore co-founded GVN Foundation in July 2005, in the United States. GVN Foundation is based out of Denver, Colorado, USA. GVN Foundation fundraises for programs around the world and distributes those funds to needy programs within struggling communities. Current ProjectsEat So They Can
Eat So They Can (ESTC) invites citizens around the world to the most unique dinner party of the year, right in the comfort of your own home. A co-initiative of GVN and GVN-Foundation, Eat So They Can invites individuals to host a meal (breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner etc) on October 18th or 19th 2008, invite their friends and family and each guest makes a donation. The money raised from these events will be used to support our partner organisations in Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Ethiopia who continuously work to end child poverty. The inaugural event last year raised an amazing $37,000US, this year we will go bigger and better as we aim to raise $100,000 for the African Children’s Fund. We believe something as simple as sharing a meal with friends can help stop extreme child poverty and hunger. Together, we can change the lives of children around the world one dinner at a time.
