Fourteen years ago some of the worst atrocities in the history of mankind took place in the country of Rwanda. In only three months, one million people were brutally murdered, making it one of the most intensive killing campaigns in human history. Since 1994, Rwanda has been working to climb out of the shadow of the past however the mass killings left thousands upon thousands of children homeless and forced to live in orphanages. While the country is currently at peace, Rwandans continue to struggle with the legacy of genocide and an estimated 51.2 per cent of all Rwandans - 70 per cent of people living in rural areas - live in poverty. . Vietnam Programs Fee IncreaseDue to increases in the cost of living in Vietnam, the program fees for both the Vietnam teaching and Vietnam orphanage programs have been increased. The inflation rate is 25.2%, the highest in more than a decade), and it is affecting daily goods in Vietnam; the cost of rice has doubled this year and fuel went up by more than 50% recently. The program fee for volunteers who pay their application fee from 5 November 2008 onwards will be:

GVN Foundation sent $25,140.64 to our partner in Romania to support the running costs of one of their group homes during the winter. Just in time for winter wood for all 4 houses = $8000. This was the biggest immediate problem solved! The rest will be used for food ($9000), electricity, school supplies, and some small Christmas presents. . . Ecuador Program Fee Prices for 2009Our partner organisation in Ecuador has announced their program fees for 2009. These fees will apply to all volunteers starting in 2009, who pay their program fee from 23 September 2008 onwards. 2009 fees for mainland reserves:

Kenya - Program Fee IncreaseDue to the rising cost of living and cost of fuel in Kenya, our Kenya partner will raise their program fee. This change will take effect to all volunteers who pay their application fees from 17 September 2008 onwards. The new prices are:
. Insurance Fees - from 8 September 2008From 8 September 2008, GVN insurance fees will be as follows. These fees will apply to all volunteers who arrange insurance policies through GVN from 8 September 2008 onwards: 30 days: US $160 Insurance periods between 30 days and 270 days can be arranged on a pro-rata basis, while we can also provide quotes for volunteer periods of more than 270 days. . |
