New Rwanda Program

27 November 2008 6:21pm
Filed under: GVN, News, Programs, Rwanda

GVN is proud to announce a new partnership with a grassroots organisation located in the Kigali province, Rwanda. This hard working non-profit’s mission is to facilitate processes that will help eradicate poverty, reduce HIV infections and assist communities in capacity building programs.

Fourteen years ago some of the worst atrocities in the history of mankind took place in the country of Rwanda. In only three months, one million people were brutally murdered, making it one of the most intensive killing campaigns in human history. Since 1994, Rwanda has been working to climb out of the shadow of the past however the mass killings left thousands upon thousands of children homeless and forced to live in orphanages.

While the country is currently at peace, Rwandans continue to struggle with the legacy of genocide and an estimated 51.2 per cent of all Rwandans - 70 per cent of people living in rural areas - live in poverty. Volunteer are urgently needed and our partner organisation offers the following programs to volunteers:

* Childrens’ Program
* Literacy Program
* HIV/Aids Program
* Gender-Based Violence Program
* Poverty Reduction Program
